changing layouts and names, oh my!

Hello world. As you may have noticed, I changed things up. I got tired of my msnoxy.blogspot addy, "The Boring World of Nox" as the title of my blog, and the look of the blog itself. I had the idea to change it up last year, but never did. What decided it was yesterdayish, when my RL buddy Sara decided to start a blog. I got the idea in my head to just start a whole new blog myself. I signed up with another account, chose noxyism as my new title, and even fell in love with a premade layout. Then Sara was like "um... why don't you just change your CURRENT blog, instead of starting a new one??"  And I was like "er.... oh yeah..."

So here we have it. It took ages for me to get noxyism as my name here, because since I'd taken the name on the other account, it was telling me it was reserved, even though I removed the name from that account. Long story short I ended up adding that account as an admin author to this account, then changing the name while on that account. Ha. Complicated. That is me. But I got that all set, and found the layout I liked, and poof! That simple. Kidding. If it were simple, my "Complicated. That is me." statement would not be factual. Changing the name removed all the blogs in my sidebar listed under "Blogs I Follow". Those blogs were ones I started following before I used the Reading List on the dashboard. So I had to try and think of all the blogs I had there... I don't think I succeeded in thinking of all of them, but I tried.

I like this layout. The second I saw it, I was like "Oooo!!"
Mainly because "Dandelions Fly Through Blue Air" was my favorite lyric from the song
DFTBA by Hank Green.

I even have a picture I painted based off it on the wall just above my 'puter. So yep. I chose that one. I didn't change much else on the blog.

I actually noticed the "Edit Pages" section of this particular page - this as in where I'm currently writing this. Don't know if I've ever looked at it before. Or how long it's been there. I often learn the very basics, then tune out the rest. So I guess it makes sense for me to have not noticed the Pages until I actually went to change things.  I might try using that option for extra pages... eventually. But for now, meh. Let's not go crazy.

I am tired. Like, tired tired. And I noticed something today... it seems as if it takes me about 6 hours to draw a picture. That's how long it took today. And that's how long it took last week when I drew a different pic. Even though when I'm looking at them, one looks like it might be more complicated.... I'd like to show you the pictures... but I do not believe I can yet. They are a part of a project that is not yet finished, and so when it is, I'll show them. Teehee.

Onwards!

day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
Hmm.... well that's a simple enough topic. Songs remind me of people all the time. Let's see if I can find three to share...

Cajmere - It's Time For the Percolator

This loverly song reminds me of my friend Trishie. In our high school years, she used to sing it randomly when she felt it was time to boogie. Though... her lyrics strayed. Where Cajmere sings:
"It's time for the percolator.
It's time for the percolator.
It's time for the percolator.
It's time for the percolator."

Trishie would sing:
"It's time for the percolator.
It's time for the coffee-maker."

While she boogied down.

Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman

Any guesses on who this song reminds me of? Yep, that's right. My ex-boyfriend. It was his heart-song before I finally pointed out that it was his heart song. A heart-song, for those who've not seen, or forgotten that part of Happy Feet, is the song that is in your heart. The one you sing when nothing else comes to mind.

Yep. My ex-boyfriend, during moments of silence, would bust out in to an a cappella rendition of that song. Just the chorus. But yeah.

Stevie B. - When I Dream About You

When I was little, grade school little, my mother taught me and my best friend the words to this song. Why? I have no idea. Can't remember. But I do remember the lyrics. And so it reminds me of my grade school best friend, Sarah. I remember Sarah even tried to rewrite the lyrics...

You see, back then, B96 was our favorite radio station (it's still mine, while I think her tastes in music moved in a different direction, plus, B96 is a chicagoland station, and in 8th grade or so, she moved to Wisconsin.) and back then on the morning show there were these two dudes, Eddie and Jobo.  (They got fired in the 90's, then like, rehired almost ten years later, but were let go... last year? I think?) And they would parody popular songs. The one I can remember most (probably because it was one of their last I think) is a parody of Barbie Girl. Let's see if I can find it....

Success!!

Eddie V- Ken Doll

ANYHOO.... Sarah decided that she wanted to parody songs too. And so naturally, she chose the Stevie B. song. I don't think she ever finished it, and I can't remember enough to share, or maybe I can... basically, she'd changed the lyrics to be about a girl whose boobs were too big. LOL.

...Because they hurt like *bleep*, but I shouldn't be telling yoooou...

When I dream about them
That's when everything's alright
They're nearly two feet
Go down to my knees...

Umm.... yep. That's all I remember. LOL.

Another unfinished parody was Janie Broke Her Gun. (to the tune of Janie's Got a Gun, obviously) I actually contributed a bit to that one. As in like, one line maybe?

Janie's got a gun.
Janie's shot a nun.
Oh no, she's gotta run.
Janie broke her gun.

What is she gonna dooooo?
Somebody go and get some gluuuuuue!

Oh yes. These are high quality lyrics.

Sarah can be seen in parts of one of my Benpals videos:

At around 11 seconds to 35 seconds or so.We tried to keep in touch after I moved away in 5th grade, but that eventually faded. I think some time in10th grade was the last time I visited her. We're still friends on facebook though. Ha.

I think that's it for today. Gonna catch some sleep. Good afternoon.

Guiltily Conflicted

Hello BEDA number four. I am still here and blogging, and I am MAKING SURE the Post date is in 2011. Ha. Yayness.

As the title of the post suggests, I am conflicted. And feel guilty for feeling so. I feel like here is the perfect place to express my feelings though, so here we go.

My brother and my "sis" are now, officially engaged. I guess it happened this past Saturday. And I am incredibly and extremely happy for them. The 6th marks their... 6th year anniversary together? I think? And so it's wonderful to hear they've moved to the next step.

And now I feel guilty. Because I'm hurt. I love my brother. I respect him, and I'm grateful for our relationship. We've not argued or fought since middle school. We're cool. I've always even considered him a friend. A close friend at that.

Depending on if or when my mom heard, I may have been the last to find out about the engagement. I found out via a facebook status she posted. Then a confirmation when the next day they both changed their statuses from "In a relationship" to "engaged".

I'm his sister. His only sister. And the way I get to first hear about it is on a public facebook status?? Not even so much as a text shot my way? We all live in the same house! Dad said my brother hid the ring in Dad's room since he bought it last month. He couldn't have mentioned it to me sometime? Did he not trust me? I feel like... like I've misunderstood our relationship all these years. That our ability to not argue or fight... was not the fact that we got along, but that maybe he just couldn't be bothered by me.

My mom is... not the nicest person in the world. He and she have had their problems. While he doesn't hate her, he certainly does dislike her. He keeps his distance. She thinks he hates her. He can't be bothered to correct her. So it makes sense to me that she might be one of the last people to hear of it. But me? Does that mean that he dislikes me as well? And just can't be bothered to let me know? Ouch. Just... ouch. It hurts.

I'm still happy about the engagement though. I'm happy for him and "sis". I love her and am glad to hear that someday she will officially be a part of this family. No matter how much it may have hurt me to hear about it the way I did. Am I wrong to be sad about that?

Whatever. Moving on.

day 04 - a song that makes you sad

Wow. Really? How appropriate.

Unfortunately, might also be difficult to answer.

I don't tend to try and remember songs that make me sad. On a whole, I don't tend to listen to them.

There was one song that used to make me sad for a short time a few years back... let me see if I can find it...

Lindsay Lohan -Something I Never Had

There it is. It made me sad back then, because it reminded me of a pretty bad breakup. It doesn't make me sad anymore though. I came to my senses, saw that I was, in fact, nothing to him. I like the song though. It's on my ipod. Whenever I hear it, for a fleeting moment I remember the pain I had for that person, but it passes, and I instead listen to the song.

Speaking of pain for a person... I think I can include this song too:

Luke Conard - Happy

The song makes me feel the emotions that he feels. It's a great song.

On another note, I am bored with how my blog looks. I'm deciding whether I want to just... change blogs completely... or as a friend suggested... update the look of my blog. Thing is, I might want to change a LOT. Bleh. I shall decide eventually. Maybe. Or now. Whatever.
End post.

zzzzzzzz..... - huh? WHAT?

EDIT: omg, I freaked the heck out just now, I thought blogger just up and deleted this post. Like, vanished it. But it's here! I found it! The date on it was a year ago, and that's why it didn't show up at the top of the list... why on earth was it dated for 2010??

Hello there. Like my icon? It's making me want tea. Or sleep. Well okay, maybe anything is making me want sleep. It's just past 5am currently, and I haven't gone yet. A bit tired, as I woke up at 9am yesterday. It's time for bed. But I'm afraid I might sleep a LOT and then I got things to do and the longer I wait to blog, the longer it will take. I wanna make sure I get my BEDA done for the 3rd. So this might be short.

day 03 - a song that makes you happy
That's easy...

Toby Turner - There's a Floppy Disk on the Floor

I love Toby Turner, and this song makes me happy. Hee. 'nuff said.

Oh my goodness I'm fading....

I spent the night watching episodes of Psych from season 1 and it was fuuuuuuuuuun.

Looking forward to watching Firefly tonight on the Science Channel. I know I've seen the entire season more than once and we technically have it on dvd, but I needs to show support yo. Plus, I'm DVRing them all so I have them to watch whenever I want without the need for the dvd. HA.

I feel like I should use another topic, but I don't feel like it... I can throw this one out though: Fictional characters you most relate to and why

Because I can't really say I've come across a fictional character that I most relate to. I don't think I have anyway. I don't remember coming across one, and at the very least, I should remember that if not the character itself. So that's a fail. I should write a book. And make a character relate-able to myself. That way, I can answer this question. Hee hee haha.

Okay. I think I'm spent. I needs the sleep, and if I stay up any longer, I'll have trouble falling asleep.

I shall end here with a response to my comment from last post, because heaven knows blogger doesn't have a "reply" button, so responding to the comment using your own comments seems silly sometimes....

Joyfulgirl42, I imagine I could probably tolerate "When I see YOUR FACE" as an insult... or even possibly a farewell phrase.

You know, like:
"I had a great time tonight! When I see YOUR FACE!!"
"Yeah, totally! Me too! When I see YOUR FACE!!"

Hehe haha heeee ha hooo. And I'm glad you thought up the name explanation! Because I never would have come up with it myself, and while I've been asked often about it, (most often when I'm using the whole name) I've never actually written out the full explanation. lol.

What is a noxzimbyp?

Holy bejeebus, I made it. To day two. Okay, you don't understand how hard this was for me. Last night, we changed routers and the internet exploded. Okay, maybe not "exploded", but it did stop working. And I was all like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I only did one day of BEDA! ONE DAY!!!" The last time our internet died, it was also on a Friday, and we couldn't get it fixed until the following Tuesday. I was making mental plans to visit my friend to borrow her internets just so I could post a beda blog. ha. But no need! Because it is fixed!! WOOT! It only took over 4 hours, but it IS fixed. And I am able to continue BEDA in the comfort of my own home. Ha!

Moving on.

Continuing the 30 day song thinger... day 02 - your least favorite song

Hmm... this... is... tough. Because, as a rule... I don't try to remember songs I hate... so lemme think...

and I still can't think of one... so I'm just going to go with an overplayed song that I can't stand anymore. Plenty of those. You see, some songs, I can listen to over and over, literally on repeat, and literally for days at a time. (same goes for some movies) Others? Not so much.

Bruno Mars - Just the Way You Are

When I first heard this song, I was like, omg this is adorable! Then I was stuck in the car for half a day listening to "top 40" radio stations.....

yeah, not so much anymore. The one part - "When I see YOUR FACE!" Makes me cringe.

It didn't help that not a week after I grew to hate the song, I was stuck at a jiffy lube where the receptionist dude had it as a ringtone.... and left his phone while wandering off doing errands. And no, not the song - JUST. THAT. PART.

"When I see YOUR FACE!"
*two or three notes, then a pause*
"When I see YOUR FACE!"
*two or three notes, then a pause*
"When I see YOUR FACE!"
*two or three notes, then a pause*
"When I see YOUR FACE!"

*bashes head against wall full of tires*

Yep. There we go. A lovely song I happen to hate.

So my lovely internet friend and fellow BEDA attempter, Joyfulgirl42, sent me a list of topics to blog about. There's about 9 things on the list, and it beats my current list of... nothing. Ha. I fail. Anyhoo, I was going to write about one now... but decided mayhaps I should wait on that. For like, when I've nothing to write about. But then, right now, I have nothing to write about so....

Okay, you convinced me.

Explaining my username.

My username is noxy... or ms. noxy, (msnoxy) which is short for noxzimbyp.

In senior year of high school, I was in a sculptures and crafts class. It was more "crafts" than it was "sculptures". A project we had to do involved sheets of metal. We had to make a design, cut it out of metal, then etch the detailing in.

I did not want to do this project. So when it came to making the design, I ended up doodling a little gangsta alien, or gangstalien - baggy shirt and pants, chains, backwards cap, sunglasses, the works. Then I planned on sitting there not doing anything. But the teacher came by and I thought I should probably continue working, so I got to cutting a copper sheet to fit the outline of my alien.

But by the time I finished cutting him out, I no longer liked him. Not the metal outline, but the doodle. His outfit bothered me. I did not like my ghetto alien. I looked down at my outlined copper alien. I decided I liked it just the way it was, without the crappy detailing to draw attention to it.

And so I kept him. Just the way he was.

In hindsight, I should have kept him and made something else. Not for the grade, because the teacher had already given me an A, (I was in a disruptive class, therefore she assumed anyone who was silent and working actually did everything they needed to accomplish regardless of whether they turned anything in) but because now, all these years later, I'm wondering what the heck was the next step. The etching process. Meh. Oh well.

So anyhoo, while everyone else talked loudly, I sat there with my outlined alien. I began to feel bad for him - the alien with no detail to confirm he was an alien. He could have been a grown up Stewie for all anyone knew. So I gave him a name.

I just started writing letters I happen to like: n-o-x-z-i-m-b-y-p. There you have it. noxzimbyp. My username comes from my little copper alien cutout. I still have him. There he is. A little tarnished and discolored, since he's about 8 years old. Yep. That year, while online, I grew weary of my old username: which was just Jackief16 and Jackief17. I wanted a name that would be uniquely me. So I stole my alien's name. And now he and I share the same name.

I have since gotten tired of noxzimbyp. And occasionally of noxy. So sometimes I'll mix it up. So then I'm msnoxy, or niz or zimby.

Another tidbit - noxzimbyp and any form of the name is always lowercase. This is on purpose, though it wasn't at first. First, it was a matter of whatever I was typing it in to wasn't case-sensitive - so why bother capitalizing? But then, when I turned 18, I wandered in to the world of MMOSGs. (mass multiplayer online social games) There, I found my first real internet friends. One of which happened to be in to Sub/Dom, a culture I'd never heard of before. (I lived a sheltered life) Actually, this is a much, MUCH, longer story, and mayhaps I'll share it another time. But, long story short, in the world of Sub/Dom, the dom names were always capitalized, (showing power) while the subs were not - to show inferiority. I... have always considered myself an inferior being. This is due to lack of self esteem. And so upon hearing the reasoning for their capitalization, I found that the fact that I never capitalized noxzimbyp seemed to fit. And so I decided that it must always be lowercase.

There has only ever been one exception, and that's because of Second Life. Because they don't allow lowercase. At least, they didn't when I signed up. (no idea if that's still the case) They also require a last name. And not one you think up, but one you HAVE to choose from their drop down of names. Which, sounded incredibly stupid to me - ESPECIALLY when I learned that their drop down of last names CHANGES depending on the first name you chose. (I originally wanted to be noxy Koala, but Koala wasn't an option for me.) Ridiculous. So I am Noxy in Second Life. Noxy Minogue. I've grown used to it - the capitals - but only when using that name. Noxy Minogue. noxy.

And there you have it.

HELLO BEDA!!

Greetings lovely blog-of-which-I-may-have-deserted-since-December!!! How doth ye fair? Did that question make sense? Does the title make sense? Is it realistic at all?

All valid questions. I am not certain, (and am too lazy to check) but I do believe I have never managed to blog for an entire month. And yet here I sit, attempting to do just that. BEDA = Blog Every Day in April. We shall see how that works out. Wish me luck. Ha.

To help myself feel more prepared for my attempt at blogging for thirty days straight, I downloaded new icons, to use just for this challenge. I didn't feel like dipping in to my cache of old icons that while still might hold meaning, are stale. I needed new. NEW NEW NEW!!! At least.... new to me. So I found this lovely batch of 50 icons, located here by the lovely A-Little-Kitty on deviantArt. I narrowed them down to 30. Woot! I'm now prepared to blog for thirty days!!!! WOOOT!!

Okay, tangent time, I might be a little wired right now. We've been hanging on to this puppy. My brother's gf (who has in the past and will now be named "my sister") found a dog outside her parent's house one night last week. We've agreed to keep him here until his owner's been found. I talked to my dad about whether or not he might want to keep the dog if he's still homeless, and my dad responded "...can we name him Pitbull?"

I only have one picture of this dog. Behold, the possible "Pitbull".

Yep. Looks like a Pitbull, no? Yeah.... anyhoo, the pup barks consistently and for long lengths of time, and doesn't seem to listen. But just now I think - at least for my sister - might have been a deal breaker. My sis let him outside. The pup came in to the house with a dead thing in his mouth. And sis got so freaked out she hopped one of the little kiddie fences (up to keep the pup confined to the kitchen) and ran to my room - to tell me he had something dead in his mouth and asked what we should do. She only JUST finished saying this when he came running over to us... upstairs... stopping right outside my bedroom door... and dropping the thing. Oh geeze. Oh. Geeze. Sis screamed and ran in to my room for shelter as soon as she heard him behind her. She thought he was stuck in the kitchen, but apparently the other gate wasn't closed. We um... we don't do well with dead things... in case you hadn't guessed.

From about a foot away, I decided it was either a small bunny, or else a rodent. We managed to get it scooped up and thrown out, but yeah. It was horrifying. And poor Pitbull was so proud of himself.

So now I dunno if we'll be keeping him. We shall see. We shall see.

Anyway.... tangent over....

A twitter friend of mine mentioned she might do BEDA this year, which got me thinking about it. So I figured, why not?

I thought I'd think up ideas of things to write in case I blanked... but I totally dropped the ball. Not much to write about I think.... mayhaps I should start a list in today's post.... then again, maybe not. Meh.

I did find a "30 day song challenge" on Facebook that I thought I could blog about. And April has 30 days! Crazyness! So let's see.... Day 1.... "your favorite song".

Hmm..... well hmm..... let's draw this out... and choose three. Ha.

My favorite song tends to change often. And sometimes goes back to songs. There's one that's held that title the longest:

Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting

Even hearing the first few seconds of this song still gets me. Love it.

and then there's one that's been a recurring fave for the past couple years:
Pauley Perrette - Fear

And finally, my current favorite song:
David Choi - That Girl

It's the one that keeps popping in my head right now. And I don't mind.

And there we have it. Ha hee haha. I know you were so totally dying to know those!

Okay, I think I might be crashing. Feeling all sleepy like now....

So I went to this site called "I Write Like" and it apparently "analyzes your writing style and compares them with those of the famous writers". So I took what I had of my failed nanowrimo project and popped it in and got:

I write like
Leo Tolstoy

I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

And then, just to see, I popped in my last blog post and got:

I write like
Stephen King

I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

Iiiiiiiiinteresting.

Oh, and I'll end on this note - just in case you'd like to compare my work to Tolstoy, here's the first paragraph of the nano project:

Elle Perkins threaded her way through the hot and humid jungle. She hadn't a clue where she was exactly, only that the burning hot sun seemed to be able to find her even through the densest of trees. She wandered in one direction, hoping to find exactly what she was looking for. As she hopped a fallen tree, she said a prayer, and hoped that fallen tree didn't have any relatives to mourn it. Elle found herself imagining that fallen tree - now christened "Fate" (get it? "Fallen tree"?) - did have a family. A child. That is now on his own. Poor kid tree. Elle was so immersed in her imaginings that she hadn't noticed the brush ahead begin to thin. It was not until she came within a hair's breadth from the edge of a cliff that she immediately dismissed her thoughts of Fate and her bastard orphan child.
