Cook'n Recipe Organizer 11 v.11 Review + Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Have you guys heard of Cook'n? I got the chance to download a digital copy for review, and I am so glad I did. Cook'n is a recipe organizer - a cookbook stored on your computer. It allows you to upload your own recipes via manually or even scanning them in, pull recipes off of websites and pinterest, or you can order Cook'n cookbooks for additional recipes. Once stored, you have easy access to view or share!

I was excited to try this, mainly because most of my recipes come from the internet now. I either bookmark them, (with no organizing... recipes often get lost) pin them to a yummy board on pinterest, or print/write them out. (again, with no organizing... recipes are often lost. lol. I'm sooo bad at organizing)

Cook'n makes it fairly easy to organize, it just takes some getting used to.

It features a way to "quickly grab" recipes off of websites. However, if the web page isn't formatted the way Cook'n needs it to be, a notice will pop up,

and despite my clicking "Do not show this again", it will still show this notice, which is actually quite annoying, especially since all but two sites I went to were not formatted the way Cook'n needs - and the two sites that were "formatted correctly" didn't transfer correctly. They completely ignored the ingredients list, only copying the directions.

I definitely prefer the manual way, although that can be annoying too. To make the "manual" method "easier", there's a Snip-It tool that allows you to simply highlight a section, then click the button that relates. But when you select an ingredient, it won't always be copied correctly, because a non-Snip-It manual insertion is required if the cookbook doesn't recognize the ingredient you've highlighted.

And when you type in the ingredient manually because of that, a notification will pop up to allow you to "quick add" the ingredient to the database. I'd rather not have to allow the quick add every time I add an ingredient the program doesn't know. It would be a lot nicer if it just automatically added, and let me know once (you know, with a "don't tell me again" option)  that I can go back to add detail later.

My preferred manual method is just to highlight and copy the ingredients from the website, then paste them as is in to the "Snag-It! Automatic Ingredient Entry". (Looks like the magic wand on the right of the ingredients listing) It does a better job separating the ingredients than the Snip It tool does.

Those are essentially my only issues with it.  Mind you, I haven't tried all the snazzy features, but I did try what I, myself, needed from a digital cookbook. And once I found that magic wand tool, I enjoyed using Cook'n so much more. lol.

The homepage on the program is fabulous, it has a "Live Recipe Feeds" section where you can find some awesomely delicious looking foods to save in your cookbooks for future use.

And my Cook'n Bookshelf is on the left for me to go to whenever I want to.

Plus, should I ever need to print out a physical copy, that's super easy too!

That's what I get when I hit print and okay the preview as is. (I only have a black and white printer at the moment, that light gray half on the bottom of the recipe is supposed to be light yellow.) There are settings to change it too, in case you want something simpler or in a different size or something.

Overall, Cook'n is pretty awesome. I'm so glad I have a program that organizes my recipes super easy.
